Halis Serbest is a Turkish Cypriot politician who served because the 4th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from 2015 to 2020. He was born within the village of Gaziveren, Famagusta District, Cyprus, on 12 August 1953. Serbest is a graduate of the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Istanbul College and has a Grasp’s diploma in Economics from the College of Manchester.
Serbest started his political profession in 1990 when he was elected to the Meeting of the Republic as a member of the Nationwide Unity Get together (UBP). He served as Minister of Finance from 2004 to 2006 and as Minister of Financial system and Power from 2010 to 2013. In 2015, he was elected President of the TRNC, defeating incumbent President Dervi Erolu.
